Debbi Calabrese, CTC, President

photo_debbiDebbi opened Embassy Travel in 1985 in Hopewell Junction, New York and attained her certification as a Certified Travel Counselor (CTC) shortly thereafter. Continuing education is important to Debbi and she has attained an impressive resume of certifications, specialization degrees and awards. Debbi originally wanted to be a Wedding Planner and found a way to combine that with her love of travel by specializing in unique Honeymoons and Destination Weddings. Debbi also handles Corporate Event and Special Events planning.

Debbi loves to travel because she says “the interaction with people of various nationalities, backgrounds and cultures have always interested me. To be part of the experience instead of just reading about it — that is what travel is all about. To breathe the air, eat the food, walk the beaches, and mingle with the local population is an education you cannot get from books.”

Recent Destinations: South Africa. Costa Rica. Completely opposite sides of the world with equal diversity in flora, fauna, culture and people… but both incredibly exciting.

Hobbies/talents: Event planning and scheduling — detailed work which is incredibly handy as a Travel Agent! And of course, travel. Animal rescue is another passion of mine and takes on a whole new meaning when you see the amount of strays running around some of the poorer nations.

Dream destination: Cambodia, specifically Angkor Wat. This 12th century temple buried under dense jungle foliage for hundreds of years is truly mesmerizing. To see something so ancient and intact in this modern age is rare.

Favorite destination (so far): Each place holds special memories, but Hong Kong may be my pick. The city vibe mixed in with the local culture and customs. The fantastic food. The cleanliness of everything from the buses to the subways to the streets themselves. Architecture ranging from centuries old to 21st century design. P.S. Turkey is definitely climbing the charts…

Recent Destinations: Both warm weather destinations, Nassau, Bahamas and Riviera Maya, Mexico.

Hobbies/talents: Painting and photography have been a long time hobby of mine. And of course, traveling. You can see some of my photos from my trips on our social media. The recent opening of miles of bike trails around my home also feeds my need for exploration and outdoor time.

Dream destination: There are many, but one that I really hope to see is Easter Island, from its amazing history and the mystery of the Moai to the caves that can be explored it truly looks like an amazing part of our world.

Favorite destination (so far): I believe that each place holds something special that we keep in our thoughts and take home with us. For that reason it is hard to have a definite favorite. That said I would have to say St. John USVI comes to my mind first because of the island vibe and the way the island has preserved its natural beauty.

Patty D’Alessandro, Concierge

Born in Cuba, lived in Puerto Rico for 8 years and then moved to New York City at age 14.

Recent Destinations: Raising a family with 2 young boys definitely influences your vacation choices. Both Walt Disney World and Boston were big hits.

Hobbies/Talents: Traveling, reading, crafts, listening to music and Salsa dancing. I developed a love of travel at a very young age. My dad loved to travel and was always ready to go on to the next adventure at a moment’s notice. He taught me to be curious and open minded about different places and cultures. When I travel, I like to sightsee, explore and get to know the locals, their foods and traditions.

Dream Destination: Australia and New Zealand. As an animal and ocean loving family we would love to see Kangaroos and Koala Bears and the Great Barrier Reef. I would also like to return to Italy and Spain with my family. I would like to visit Venice and ride a gondola, walk through St. Mark’s Square and visit the Murano glass factory. Venice is a unique place not to be missed. In Galicia, northwest Spain, where my grandfather was from, you can pick mussels right from the ocean and cook them fresh. You can also experience how they take ham and cure it using the ocean salt.
